BRR.Vet’s Chiropractic Goal

Dr. Cassy is a veterinarian first, veterinary chiropractor second. Our goal is to provide the best care and advice possible for your animal. We like to work in conjunction with your primary veterinarian to provide the best comfort and care modalities, both medical and holistic, to give the best quality of life achievable.

What Is Veterinary Chiropractic?

Veterinary chiropractic, also known as Animal Chiropractic or Spinal Manipulation Therapy (SMT), is a non-invasive manual therapy focusing on restoring proper movement and function of the spine and joints. When the spine is not moving correctly, it can affect the nervous system, cause pain, and limit an animal’s ability to perform daily activities comfortably.

Veterinary chiropractic does not replace traditional veterinary medicine, but it works alongside it to support whole-body health and healing.

How It Helps

Chiropractic adjustments may benefit animals experiencing:

  • Back or neck pain
  • Stiffness or decreased flexibility
  • Difficulty rising, jumping, or navigating stairs
  • Gait abnormalities or lameness not caused by fractures
  • Reduced performance in working or sport animals
  • Muscle tension, spasms, or asymmetry
  • Arthritis-related discomfort
  • Recovery from injury or surgery
  • Chronic conditions that affect mobility
    • Hip Dysplasia Management
    • Osteoarthritis
    • IVDD Management
    • Degenerative myelopathy
  • Neurological symptoms (1st evaluated by primary veterinarian)

Many pet owners report improvements in comfort, mobility, and overall well being after treatment.

What to Expect During an Appointment

1. Comprehensive Evaluation

Your animal will receive a thorough examination, including:

  • Medical history review
  • Gait and posture assessment
  • Neurologic and orthopedic checks
  • Palpation of the spine and joints
  • Medication review

2. Chiropractic Adjustment

If areas of restricted motion (“subluxations”) are detected, gentle and precise adjustments are performed using hands-on techniques. The adjustments are quick, controlled movements designed to restore normal joint function.

3. Treatment Plan

Based on findings, your veterinarian will recommend:

  • Number of sessions
  • Home care (stretching, exercises, environmental adjustments)
    • Monitoring for improvement or regression
  • Coordination with your pet’s regular veterinary care

Treatment frequency varies depending on age, condition, lifestyle, and goals. You do not have to commit to anything you don’t want to!

Is Chiropractic Safe for Animals?

When performed by a licensed veterinarian with certified chiropractic training, spinal manipulation is considered safe and well-tolerated. Most animals relax during treatment, and some may even show immediate signs of relief.

Veterinary chiropractic should never be performed by an untrained individual.

Which Animals Can Benefit?

Chiropractic therapy can be beneficial for:

  • Dogs
  • Cats
  • Horses
  • Show Livestock
  • Working and performance animals (agility, hunting, police/service dogs)
  • Senior pets needing support for comfort and mobility

Signs Your Pet May Need Chiropractic Care

You may notice your pet:

  • Hesitating to jump or climb
  • Showing sensitivity when touched
  • Tilting their head or carrying their tail to one side
  • Moving stiffly or slowly
  • Dragging feet or showing changes in gait
  • Showing reduced performance or willingness to work
  • Having behavioral changes related to discomfort

If you observe any of these signs, an evaluation may be helpful.
