Thank you for working with us! Before we can treat your animals, prescribe medication, or give specific medical advice, we need a veterinary-client-patient relationship (VCPR).

What is a VCPR?

A VCPR is a professional relationship between a veterinarian, a client, and their animals. The veterinarian takes responsibility for making clinical judgments about the animals’ health, and the client agrees to follow the veterinarian’s instructions. It’s the foundation for effective care, including diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management.

Why it matters

A valid VCPR is what lets us prescribe medications and give treatment advice for your animals. It’s also required for emergency farm calls.

How a VCPR is established

A VCPR is established when the veterinarian has examined your animals and is familiar with their care, management, and environment. This typically means an in-person visit to see your animals and where they’re kept at least once a year. Minnesota has additional legal requirements set by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture; see this handout for specifics.

To set up or renew a VCPR, call or text (507) 829-6594 to schedule a visit.

Our consultation policy

We value an ongoing relationship with you as our client, not just the technical requirements of a VCPR. Our time is limited, so to give every client and their animals the attention they deserve, we ask that consultations stay within a reasonable length. Extended consultations that aren’t part of billable services may be charged to your account for the extra time.

Thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
